About Gallery 701
We are
NOT associated with the 701 Whaley building!
Gallery 701(TM) has been established
for 12 years. The arts organization in the building is brand
new and is NOT Gallery 701. Do not be
confused, that is a separate organization. Don't be fooled by
cheap imitations!
Jack
Gerstner founded Gallery 701(TM) in
1996. The name Gallery 701(TM)
and "701" are synonymous with Jack
Gerstner(TM) the diverse fine art exhibitions and world-class music
concerts he has brought to Columbia, South Carolina.
and
Gallery 701(TM) is not located at 701
Whaley Street, although it used to own that building and present
contemporary art there until 2000. After leaving the building,
Gallery 701(TM) has continued to
present high-caliber contemporary art exhibitions, music concerts,
and much more. Jack Gerstner and Gallery 701(TM)
founded the "Gallery 701(TM) Chamber
music series with Charles Wadsworth" in 1999 in Columbia and
presented the series for three years. Gallery 701 also
presented Sam Bush, Kevn Kinney, Chattham County Line, Sarah Lee
Guthrie and Johnny Irion, the Mammals, Marcus Roberts Trio, Donna
the Buffalo, Guster, Sam Rivers, and many more. Gallery 701(TM)
is the original, so don't be confused by new organizations and don't
be fooled by cheap imitations.
Gallery
701(TM)
Gallery 701(TM) is the name of our Arts Organization,
not the building on Whaley Street. We used to own the "building
formerly known as", however, it is not Gallery 701(TM), nor is the
company that owns the property called Gallery 701(TM).
We are Gallery 701(TM)! The Originators of 701.
Gallery 701(TM) has presented Live
Music concerts in Columbia, South Carolina Since 1996.
Gallery
701(TM) is much more than a building. This photograph shows the
building we used to produce Gallery 701(TM)'s many exciting art events
and live music concerts, from 1996 to 2000.
For the
past seven years the building sat empty and Gallery 701 has
continued to present hundreds of events in a variety of venues
large and small around Columbia, SC.
Gallery
701 has not produced concerts in that building in seven years.
After a protracted battle to prevent the City of Columbia from
demolishing the building, we sold the building to a private group in
the fall of 2006. While we did sell the building, we did not
sell the name, nor did we dissolve our organization. Gallery
701 lives on and continues to present diverse and accessible live
music concerts in Columbia, South Carolina.
Highlights: these concerts include the Gallery 701 Chamber Music
Series with Charles Wadsworth, which we founded in 1999 and
presented for three years. Gallery 701 also presented Wynton
Marslais with Ron Westray at the Koger Center, The Marcus
Roberts Trio, with Jason Marsalis and Roland Guarin, as well as
Stanley Crouch at the Columbia Convention center.
Gallery
701 Also presented the Sam Bush Band, with Dixie Chicks guitarist
Keith Sewell, at the University of South Carolina's Longstreet
Theatre and at Headlines, both great places to see theatre, and
live music in Columbia , South Carolina.
